It's been weeks since...many great weeks, and a couple unpleasant ones. Really glad my parents visited me, and everything just fell nicely into place during our vacation. The chance to meet my dad's high-school friend was priceless, cause that's when you see elder folks just become young ones again. Worth every single moment.
Of course the best time was in Washington. Something about having parents around, regardless of where you are, that made the ambiance very homely...Penang-ish, I should say...with friends all around, Hokkien being spoken, dogs running about, TVs playing, food and drinks everywhere.
Needless to say, heading back to work was tough...straight into 2 mad weeks, giving me the urge to accelerate my plans to move...yet again. Seen too many good people leave and many others on the verge of calling it quits. Ah well, adds a little excitement, doesn't it ?
With an unusual stroke of luck, I met up with someone whom I haven't seen in almost 10 years! Best random moment in a while, I have to say. Always great to have someone from my hometown around.

The recent 4-day power outage got me back into my weird fascination for lights...in general. I've always been a fan of projector HID headlamps on vehicles, hence the retrofit I paid for to fit in a pair of TSX projectors into the Accord. Something about weak halogen headlamps that feels lame....or my eyesight is weakening...or people just don't bother bout these things like I do.
My next phase of...things...is torch lights, or flashlights as it's called over here. The confusion on my colleagues' faces when I asked them to hand me over the torch light...was amusing, to say the least.
I replaced my cheapo Inova keychain LED with this...for starters...
I don't know what to compare 27 lumens with...but it's plenty bright for "close range" tasks. Looked for few other AAA flashlights but settled for this first. There's plenty of reviews of this unit all over the web and youtube, and they are correct about the awesome "flooding" pattern this flashlight gives out.
I'm a fan of flashlights with flooding patterns because I tend to use it more indoors or at close range. My trusty Coleman maxLED has 1 setting, whatever the output is, and adjustable knob that adjusts the beam from focus to flood. I find myself using flood pattern more often. It's not the best, but it helped a lot at work during the power outage, in the dark, when everyone else had puny flashlights that surrenders at the sight of a candle. Then again I'm the only person picky about the light's intensity, reach and width.
Anyway, I also got myself a Fenix E21 too, for misc tasks....a Jetbeam PA40 for my "main" flashlight, the highly-regarded 4Sevens Preon2 as a carry-anywhere penlight and few packs of Panasonic Evolta alkaline batteries. Kind of overkill, perhaps. My wallet did weep though. And they're still on the way here.
I went for flashlights that utilizes AA and AAA batteries, for obvious reasons...they're abundant. Sure, I won't get the stronger output and capacity as the other flashlights juicing up on CR123A lithium batteries , but I prefer to have a more accessible resource.
And yes, I do use my flashlight (the coleman) quite a bit during winter. After all, it gets dark at 5pm.

Travis - Side
Well I believe there’s someone watching over you
They’re watching every single thing you say
And when you die
They’ll set you down and take you through
You’ll realise one day
That the grass is always greener on the other side
The neighbour’s got a new car that you wanna drive
And when time is running out you wanna stay alive
We all live under the same sky
We all will live, we all will die
There is no wrong, there is no right
The circle only has one side
We all try hard to live our lives in harmony
For fear of falling swiftly overboard
But life is both a major and minor key
Just open up the chord
But the grass is always greener on the other side
The neighbour’s got a new car that you wanna drive
And when time is running out you wanna stay alive
We all live under the same sky
We all will live, we all will die
There is no wrong, there is no right
The circle only has one side
